My Top Cake Trends for 2025

The trend toward less perfect, more delicious looking cakes is gaining even more momentum this year and there have been some very creative cake designers leading the way on this front.

Here are my predictions for what we’ll be seeing in 2025:

  1. Fresh Takes on Lambeth Cakes

  2. Large Single Tier Cakes

  3. Sculptural Cakes

  4. Full Tables of Cake and Dessert

  5. Dramatic Floral and Fruit Decor

  6. Very Tall Cakes

If you’re here, you’re probably just as enamored with cake design as we are. These trends aren’t just about aesthetics; they’re about creating something that feels personal, delicious, and unforgettable. I love seeing how cake designers are pushing boundaries, blending tradition with fresh ideas, and making desserts that nobody is going to want to skip out on.

Fresh Takes on Lambeth Cakes

We’re all in on lambeth piping now, so I think it’s time to experiment more with these designs. I personally love to add a bit of piped embroidery to the look and I just designed a cake that combines lambeth piping with piped lined drawings inspired by the couple’s invitation. Color, sculptural floral arrangements, piped buttercream flowers, and fruit are all fun additions to this traditional wedding cake style.

Large Single Tier Cakes

This was on my predictions for last year but we actually didn’t see a ton of this style here in the Midwest. This year, we’ve seen quite a few inquiries coming in and I’m excited to put our own spin on these large, delicious looking cakes. I think there is a lot of room for experimentation here and I expect to see everything from lambeth piping on long table runner cakes to fruit decor on cakes that take up entire tables. We just designed a long cake with palette knife floral painting and simple lambeth piping that I can’t wait to bring to life.

Sculptural Cakes

I personally love this one, as it gives us a bit more creative freedom as cake designers. Dome cakes are on the rise and there is a beautiful simplicity to them that feels very fresh and of the moment. I also love to see more intricate versions of these, with Cake Designers like Lima Cakes leading the way for cake sculptures that truly belong in a museum.

Full Tables of Cake and Dessert

With the rise in one tier cakes comes a wonderful opportunity for an opulent (or low key) cake and dessert spread. If I saw this as a guest I would be SO excited for dessert!

Dramatic Floral and Fruit Decor

I’ve been seeing fruit everywhere lately and I really love it as a trend for cakes. It brings the flavor to the forefront in an appetizing way and it can be used as an addition to a variety of cake styles. I’m also obsessed with statement floral and I think these two design elements can work beautifully together. I can’t wait to push the boundaries on this one.

Very Tall Cakes

I’m not sure how many orders we’ll actually get for cakes like these, but how fun it is to take a maximalist approach when so many couples are opting for one tier cakes?

At Sweet Heather Anne, we always lean into what we do best. When we see new trends, we love to experiment and make them our own. We have built a portfolio of work that we are proud of and our artistry will continue to be the reason clients seek us out. 💛

P.S. Round, tiered, wedding cakes are not out. There are just some fun new options for couples to explore and I’m here for it!
