Cake Designer

Sweet Heather Anne is a Cake Studio in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Our desserts are hand-crafted with local ingredients and an artistic eye. We are passionate about design, and work hard to keep pushing the boundaries of our craft. We strive to create a supportive, creative work environment so that all of our team members can thrive.

Our ideal new team member is an experienced cake decorator looking to expand their skills and flourish as part of our creative team. Above all, we are seeking a motivated, creative problem-solver that will pitch-in where needed and wants to grow with the company. 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Building and smooth coating cakes

  • Decorating cakes

  • Designing cakes

  • Planning weekly tasks

  • Hand painting and lettering

  • Buttercream and royal icing piping

  • Decorating cookies

  • Packaging

  • Baking

  • Making fillings

  • Assisting/leading classes

  • Cake deliveries

  • Sharing the responsibility of dishes and other cleaning tasks

  • Keeping up with current wedding trends

  • Making dessert tags

  • Making cake boards and dying colors

  • Ordering and organizing baking materials

  • Miscellaneous admin tasks

IDEAL PRIOR EXPERIENCE

  • Baking

  • Cake building

  • Smooth coating cakes in buttercream

  • Covering cakes in fondant

  • Royal icing piping

  • 2-D and/or 3-D art fundamentals, including color theory

  • Photography

  • Procreate

  • Adobe Creative Suite

  • Drawing

  • Painting

  • Customer service

LOGISTICS

  • 35-45 hours per week, based on workflow (Our busy season is May-December)

  • Tuesday-Saturday with the occasional Sunday.

  • Starting rate: $17+/hour, based on experience

  • 401K with 4% matching

  • $500 pastry allowance for Sweet Heather Anne treats
